The rules of the road.

By creating a Sighted account or submitting a sighting, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service. We may update these Terms periodically — material changes will be announced at least 14 days in advance via email and in-app banner.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction — whichever is higher. If we learn an account belongs to someone under that age, we'll suspend it.

One account per person. Don't share credentials. Don't impersonate anyone.

You keep ownership of every sighting, comment, validation, and piece of media you submit. By posting, you grant Sighted a worldwide, royalty-free license to display, store, and redistribute that content as part of the public record — including in derivative products like the Research API, archives, and CSV exports.

You can revoke this license by deleting your content or your account. After deletion, archived copies persist only in fully anonymised form on the public map (no attribution, no media).

You agree not to:

• Submit fabricated sightings, fake media, or known-false location data
• Harass, dox, or threaten other users — investigators included
• Bypass moderation actions, evade bans, or operate sock-puppet accounts
• Scrape the site outside of the rate limits the public Research API sets
• Reverse-engineer our private APIs or attempt to extract non-public data
• Upload malware, illegal content, or sexually-explicit material

We may hide, lock, or remove sightings and comments that violate these Terms. Every action is logged in the public audit trail with the moderator, the reason, and the timestamp. Repeat or severe violations result in account suspension or permanent ban.

You can dispute any moderation action by emailing appeals@sighted.app. An admin (not the original moderator) reviews every appeal.

Sighted is free. A future Pro tier may charge for extras (unlimited alerts, KML/CSV exports, priority support). The core product — reporting, browsing, validating — will always stay free. Pricing, refund, and cancellation terms for Pro will be published before launch.

The service is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. Sighted is a community-driven platform, not a government agency or scientific authority. Reports reflect what witnesses said they saw — they are not certified observations.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sighted's aggregate liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to USD $100 or the total amount you paid us in the prior 12 months, whichever is greater.

You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that materially breach these Terms. Termination doesn't affect provisions that by their nature survive — content licenses already granted, indemnities, limitations of liability.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes that can't be resolved informally go to binding arbitration in Delaware, with each party bearing its own costs — except where prohibited by local consumer-protection law.
